Medical and Healthcare Animations
Supporting Smith and Nephew in collaboration with The Chase Films.
To produce a series of medical and healthcare animations to support parents deciding about paediatric surgery in the ENT Department.
Project Overview:
Smith and Nephew required a series of clinically accurate medical and healthcare animations for their website’s procedure pages. "The project's ambition was to help parents in the ENT department make informed decisions about the best surgical options for their child."
The pioneering medical and healthcare products for surgeries covered were Tula for middle ear infections and Colblation for tonsillectomy for tonsillitis.
Due to the client and stakeholders being located in America, the videos were to educate the parent on the new technology available when choosing a solution.
Our approach to this project was ensuring that empathy for both parents and their children was paramount when creating this series. Providing a difficult moment in a parent and child's life could be less stressful, with the opportunity of choice.
Creating a Distinctive Narrative:
The art direction was focused on a naive child-like aesthetic; we chose to focus on the softness of the colour palette, and character design helped both the parent and child feel at ease. This was to resonate with the Smith and Nephew distinctive look and feel found within the brand guidelines.
We understood that when making a decision as important as surgery, it was vital to help create a distinctive dialogue, offering the parent and child a positive brand experience. At the same time, it helped separate the brand from its competitors in this crowded marketplace.
When working with technical medical procedures, accuracy is vital. Working with the medical team, we went through multiple feedback rounds to ensure technical sign-off was seamless.
The music choice helped the viewer to focus on the subject matter at hand and not overpower the videos.
The Results:
We created an on-brand informative yet relaxing series of medical healthcare animations that continue to help Smith and Nephew to communicate sensitive subjects to the right audience.
